About Us

General Vanier Nursery School was established in 1975 by parents of Windsor Park. They felt the area needed a nurturing, safe environment to assist the development of their children. 45 years later, the program is still running and offers both morning and afternoon programs!

 Daily Program

  • Circle Time: we sing, have calendar and weather discussions, do felt board stories, have sharing time, and read books.

  • Free Play: children can choose from our various play centres. Water table, art, table toys, puzzles,  blocks, science, music and drama are areas for children to explore.

  • Art: we offer both structured and unstructured art expression. Various themes are followed throughout the year.

  • Gym: we have regular access to the school's gymnasium, for the children to develop gross motor skills. It's a fun time to have free play with the gym equipment, or play structured games.

  • Library: this is another area of the school to which we have access. Children are able to choose books and hear stories.

  • Snack: children bring their own snacks, and are able to socialize with their friends. This is a valuable time for learning manners and cleanliness.

  • Show & tell: this is a special time for children to develop their attention spans and social skills. They also learn self-control and self-esteem. Each child has his/her turn to bring a themed item from home. The child is also the "leader of the day".

Field Trips

Field trips are planned regularly , and may include trips to Children's Museum, picnics in the park, walks to the library, farm day, and Manitoba Theatre for Young People. Parents are responsible for arranging transportation to and from field trips.
